Origin: Cardigans are said to have originated from a Teckel family of dogs, the oldest herding breed. They have been existing in Wales for 3,000 years. Their present name comes from their area of origin Ceredigion in breed.
General Description: Existing from two separate dog breeds, first one being Welsh corgis that originated in Wales and the second one being the Pembroke Welsh corgi. This breed was originally bred for herding purposes, to herd cattle and sheep. They need regular daily exercises to satisfy their mental and physical activities. I can assure you, you won’t be getting a lazy pet if you buy this breed!
Looks and tail: Having a fox like appearance, this dog breed is long in physique and has upright ears. Cardigans can be any shade of red, sable, or brindle; it can also be black with or without tan brindle or blue merle with or without tan or brindle points. They usually have white on the neck, chest, legs, muzzle, underneath, tip of the tail, and as a blaze on the head. The Cardigan’s tail is long unlike the Pembroke Welsh corgi whose tail may be docked or long or short.
