General Information: The breed, also commonly called as “Aussie” is not of an Australian origin. It is a breed of a herding dog that developed on ranches in western United States. Australian Shepherds came to be a familiar figure amongst the public after the World War1 through rodeos, Disney movies etc. They work as stock dogs and still compete in herding trials.

Size, Color and Tail: The Australian Shepherd of a solid built, this breed is of medium size. The Australian Shepherd comes in Blue merle, Black and Red shades. Eyes should be surrounded by colour, even the eye rim leather. Two different eye colours may result in blindness. The wide variation of colour combinations comes from the interaction between color allele, which is either black (B) dominant or red (b) recessive, and the dominant merle allele (M). due to the different shades of the colour around their eyes, they were initially also called” ghost dogs.”These dogs have a docked or bobbed tails.
