General Information: The Japanese history justifies Akita having arrived from an old Japanese breed, the Matagi dog which is believed to be one of the oldest natives of the place. For convenience, we also divide the Akita Inu as: American Akita Inu and Japanese Akita Inu. Except some color differences, there is no major difference adjudged yet. It has been reported that some breeders in U.S have tried mixing the American Akita with the Japanese Akita. Thus, resulting in a new breed that has an elegant appearance and genetic diversity and what else would entertain the scientists!

Qualities:

  • Dogs are the most faithful creatures, truly said because Akita Inu justifies this. An example sited in a brochure said that an Akita breed proved to be the most loyal creature to its little master who used to go to school daily and Akita used to wait outside the school gate.
  • Akita can be destructive and intense if they are not given any fantasy to ponder upon. They are intelligent enough to drag you out of a fire if you get caught in one.
  • Akita is immensely friendly and needs to interact with its own breed and little puppies.
  • Coat: Akita has a water proof coat because it is bestowed with a double coat, inner coat and outer coat. Its owner should be aware of the intense shedding due to changes in weather.

Lifespan: Akita is expected to live for 11- 15 years, almost similar to most breeds of their size and temperament. According to the most recent survey conducted, the common dreadful reason for their death is cancer.

Thus, Akita is believed to be the ancient breed that almost disappeared during War due to lack of food. They are a sensitive breed that needs to be understood.
